We opened the women’s unit at Longleaf to help women who have behavioral health concerns that may be related to the effects of trauma. If left untreated, the effects of trauma can negatively impact a person’s mental health, self-esteem, and well-being.

In the Women’s Program, we provide a short-term, intensive level of care designed to help women who are experiencing crisis-level symptoms stabilize. Our program can help women who are at risk for endangering themselves or others and women who are gravely disabled. The Women’s Program can be ideal for those who could benefit from:

  • Crisis intervention: Our team is trained in helping patients who are experiencing crisis-level symptoms of behavioral health concerns.
  • Structured monitoring: Our team of experts provides regular supervision to ensure the safety and well-being of our patients.
  • Detox services: We provide detox services for patients who begin the Women’s Program with harmful substances in their systems.
  • Supportive staff: Our all-female care team is made up of medical and behavioral health professionals who specialize in caring for those who are experiencing the effects of trauma.
  • Care in a safe environment: Our hospital features safety measures designed to keep our patients from hurting themselves or others.
  • Personalized treatment: Each patient in our Women’s Program follows a customized treatment plan that is based on their unique needs.
  • Detailed aftercare planning: To help each patient continue to progress after they leave our program, we provide a detailed aftercare plan that outlines programs and treatments that may benefit them.
  • Thorough evaluations: Each patient completes an assessment that helps us understand their background, symptoms, and therapeutic goals. Using the information gathered during this assessment, our team can design an appropriate treatment plan for them.
  • Streamlined admissions process: Our admissions team is available 24/7 to answer your questions about our programming and to help you begin the admissions process.

The women who participate in our inpatient programming can learn new skills to help them address the effects of trauma that may be negatively impacting their lives. Therapies We Offer in the Women’s Program at Longleaf Hospital

Experiencing the effects of trauma can impact your well-being and harm your most valued personal relationships. However, when you receive effective care for trauma-related concerns, your life and relationships can improve. In our Women’s Program, we provide evidence-based therapies to help our patients develop skills like improved coping strategies. Therapeutic interventions at Longleaf Hospital include:

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT): CBT is a treatment modality that can help people identify and alter negative thought patterns.
  • Motivational interviewing: With motivational interviewing, a therapist asks a series of questions that can help their patient set therapeutic goals and take more responsibility for their healing process.
  • Motivational enhancement therapy: Motivational enhancement therapy can help people identify and resolve conflicted emotions around receiving addiction treatment.
  • Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT): Therapists use DBT to teach patients how to develop coping strategies that can help them alter unhealthy behavioral patterns.
  • 12-Step principles: For patients who are struggling with addictions, we implement the principles of the 12-Step recovery model.
  • SMART Recovery: SMART Recovery is a combination of rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT) and CBT designed to help people achieve lasting recovery.

Our behavioral health and medical teams use these therapeutic interventions in individual, family, and group therapy sessions. Group therapy sessions give patients the chance to meet and share support with their peers. In group therapy sessions, our staff also provides education on topics such as:

  • Cognitive distortions
  • Triggers
  • Relapse prevention
  • Challenging negative thoughts
  • Posttraumatic growth
  • Grounding techniques
  • Social skills
  • Recreational skills
  • Boundaries
  • Core beliefs
  • Gratitude and wellness
  • Motivation for change

Continuing Care

At Longleaf Hospital, we know that healing from the effects of trauma is an ongoing process, so we work to provide effective care that can help patients form a foundation for healing. Additionally, we create an aftercare plan for each patient that can help them continue to progress after they’ve left our program.

To help ensure your continued success after you transition out of our care, our team will design an aftercare plan that may include referrals to a lower level of care and other community resources. This plan may include stepping down to the intensive outpatient program (IOP) at our hospital or referrals to a program or service offered at another trusted facility, such as a partial hospitalization program (PHP), sober living, or outpatient therapy.
