Military Support Treatment

At Longleaf Hospital, we have great respect for the service and sacrifices of the men and women who serve in our nation’s military, and we are proud to provide specialized support to members of the military community when their lives are impacted by mental and/or behavioral health concerns.

Active duty military members, veterans, and their family members who live or are stationed in the Alexandria, Louisiana area can turn to Longleaf Hospital for comprehensive care in an atmosphere of dignity and respect. In addition to having full access to all treatment programs at Longleaf Hospital, members of the military community can also benefit from the following program features:

Experienced Staff

Our medical director, Dr. Michael Parker, is a retired Army colonel who completed his residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Dr. Parker works directly with all active duty personnel who heal at Longleaf and supervises the care of all members of the military community, including family members and veterans.

Our staff also includes a therapist whose clinical expertise is enhanced by insights gained as the spouse of a military member. Military members, veterans, and family members who work with this therapist benefit from receiving superior services from an experienced professional who has significant personal experiences as a member of a military family.

All of the professionals at Longleaf have experience working with military members and their families, and they have the added benefit of working alongside and learning from colleagues whose backgrounds include military service and/or membership in military families.

Specialized Support

Within the parameters of our residential programming for children, adolescents, and adults, Longleaf Hospital works diligently to ensure that military members, veterans, and families have access to specialized support that addresses the unique stresses and pressures of military life.

The trauma of combat, the stress of a spouse or parent’s deployment, and the pressures that multiple relocations can place upon children and adolescents are just a few of the many factors that can contribute to the development of a mental or behavioral health disorder.

Our commitment to personalized treatment means that we work closely with all members of the military community to identify the root causes of the symptoms they have been struggling with, and we develop customized treatment plans to provide the focused care that will promote lifelong recovery.

As an example, our experience working closely with military families means that we can provide superior support to the military-affiliated parents of children or adolescents who receive care at our center, as well as focused care for the children and adolescents themselves. For adults who heal at our center, specialized services include group sessions that are limited to active duty personnel and special residential options for military members.

Tricare Accepted

Longleaf Hospital is proud to accept Tricare insurance, and we are happy to assist families in identifying and accessing all Tricare benefits to which they are entitled.

When a member of the military community turns to Longleaf Hospital for treatment, he or she can rest assured that all aspects of his or her care, from initial insurance paperwork through all types and levels of treatment and detailed discharge planning, will be provided by experienced professionals who understand the policies and procedures of Tricare.

Our close familiarity with Tricare allows us to provide a stress-free intake and admissions experience for military members, veterans, and family members and alleviates worries that may otherwise prevent a patient from focusing on his or her healthy recovery.
